New Art Gallery
Gang Gang Gallery, located in the heart of Lithgow, is a dynamic contemporary art space housed in the heritage-rich Old Refreshments building of the Theatre Royal. This unique venue blends the charm of early 1900s architecture with modern design elements, creating an inspiring environment that beautifully juxtaposes the old with the new. After its purchase in 2012, the building underwent significant redevelopment, transforming into a vibrant gallery and function space while retaining its traditional features.
Designed in collaboration with local interior and timber artist Damian Howard, the gallery offers a light-filled main exhibition space that showcases a diverse array of contemporary art. Since its opening on 1st October 2017, Gang Gang Gallery has been a hub for artistic expression, featuring works from artists across the Blue Mountains, Central Western NSW, and other parts of Australia. The gallery’s focus on representational art spans a wide range of traditions, from expressionist to abstract and even kitsch, presented in various mediums including sculpture, textile, painting, and ceramics.
In addition to its rotating exhibitions, Gang Gang Gallery houses a permanent collection of glassware, porcelain, timber, and ironwork, reflecting the rich artistic heritage of the region. The gallery is deeply connected to the local community, fostering a growing relationship with artists and visitors alike. Gang Gang Gallery is committed to embracing the future of the Blue Mountains while honoring its storied past, making it a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts.
