LISE EDWARDS
CERAMICIST
Bio
Lise Edwards is an Australian ceramic artist whose practice explores the expressive and material possibilities of clay through both functional and sculptural forms. Working primarily with raw clay, she is drawn to its elemental nature and its transformation through fire—an alchemical process that shifts earth into permanence.
Her approach is intuitive and deeply tactile, grounded in a direct, hands-on relationship with the material. Edwards treats clay as a living substance, one that carries geological memory and responds to touch, pressure, and process. This sensitivity informs her vessels and sculptural works, which balance spontaneity with a refined sense of form.
Themes of place, memory, and environment underpin her work. Each piece emerges as a response to the spaces she inhabits and the experiences that shape her creative life, resulting in objects that feel immediate, grounded, and connected to the natural world.
Edwards has exhibited in a range of group and collaborative exhibitions, including at Gang Gang Gallery, where her work has been shown alongside other contemporary Australian ceramic artists. Through her exhibition practice, she contributes to the vibrant and evolving ceramics community of the Blue Mountains region.

Artist Statement
I work with clay as an elemental and responsive material—something that holds memory, records touch, and transforms through fire.
My process is intuitive and direct. I prefer to work closely with the clay, allowing the act of making to guide the outcome. Each piece becomes a conversation between hand and material, shaped by gesture, environment, and experience.
My recent Clay Sketches are not intended as monuments, but as figurative snapshots of a moment. They are immediate and gestural—recorded in a medium that remembers every touch. These works offer a thought, a feeling for form, captured quickly and directly.
Through this process, I explore the relationship between form, memory, and the physical act of making.
