LINDA KEMP
CERAMICIST
Bio
Linda Kemp is a Blue Mountains-based ceramic artist working from her studio, Bellevue Ceramics, in Wentworth Falls. Her practice centres on hand-built forms that reflect a deep connection to the natural environment, particularly the textures and rhythms of local flora.
Kemp’s journey with clay began in the early 1980s while running an Art & Craft gallery in Katoomba. Although her creative practice paused during a long career in the corporate sector, her return to ceramics following retirement in 2017 marked a renewed and focused engagement with the medium. Through workshops and classes across New South Wales and Canberra, she refined her skills in both hand-building and wheel throwing, establishing a distinctive visual language grounded in form and texture.
She is best known for her signature series of delicate, hand-built “pods,” inspired by the intricate structures and surfaces found in Blue Mountains plant life. These works balance sculptural sensitivity with functionality, resulting in pieces that are both tactile and contemplative.
Beyond her personal practice, Kemp plays a significant leadership role in the regional arts community. As President of the Blue Mountains Clay Collective, she supports and connects local ceramic artists through exhibitions, workshops, and community initiatives. Her commitment to fostering collaboration and ensuring access to materials has made her a valued and respected figure within the ceramics community.

Artist Statement
Working from my studio, Bellevue Ceramics, in Wentworth Falls, my journey with clay began briefly in the early 1980s while I was running an Art & Craft gallery in Katoomba.
A return to the corporate world followed in 1987; however, retirement in 2017 opened the door to rediscovering my passion for ceramics.
Classes and workshops in Canberra and across New South Wales helped refine both hand-building and wheel throwing techniques. My days are now spent joyfully creating a signature range of delicate, hand-built “pods,” inspired by the rich textures of Blue Mountains flora.
My work includes both functional and decorative pieces, blending nature’s beauty with artistry.
