KOKI CRAFT

AUDREY HOUSSARD | CERAMICIST

Bio

Audrey Houssard is the ceramic artist behind Koki Craft, a Blue Mountains–based practice known for its whimsical and expressive handmade pieces. Originally working across drawing and painting, Audrey’s creative journey evolved through polymer clay before settling into stoneware ceramics, where she found a lasting connection to form, texture, and process.

Since founding Koki Craft in 2019, Audrey has developed a distinctive style that blends playful, kawaii-inspired aesthetics with a deep appreciation for the natural world. Now based in the Blue Mountains after relocating from Sydney, her work is increasingly shaped by the surrounding landscape, local wildlife, and the quiet rhythms of her environment.

Her practice encompasses both functional and decorative ceramics, including figurines, vessels, tableware, and jewellery. Each piece is individually handcrafted, reflecting a commitment to small-batch making and the creation of objects that bring warmth, curiosity, and delight into everyday life.

Artist Statement

My work is about creating small moments of joy through objects that feel alive with personality and care. I am drawn to the gentle, playful qualities of kawaii culture, and I like to combine this with forms and textures inspired by the natural environment around me.

Since moving to the Blue Mountains, I’ve become more attuned to the details of place—the shapes of leaves, the presence of animals, and the changing moods of the landscape. These observations find their way into my work in subtle and sometimes unexpected ways.

I handbuild my pieces in stoneware, allowing for spontaneity and variation in each form. I enjoy the tactile nature of clay and the way it holds traces of the making process. No two pieces are exactly the same, and I embrace those differences as part of their character.

Whether it’s a small figurine, a cup, or a piece of jewellery, I hope my work invites a sense of connection—something that can be used, held, or simply appreciated, bringing a little wonder into everyday life.
