ANTHONY BRINK POTTERY

A nthony Brink has over 40 years experience in ceramics. He produces work for sale, exhibition and commission from his workshop located in Blackheath in the Blue Mountains. His early training was as a mould-maker, and in ceramic sculpture. However, it was his apprenticeship and subsequent work with the artist potter Gwyn Hanssen Pigott which cemented his embrace of the potters art.

Anthony is a qualified teacher, having worked in higher education, the vocational education and training sector, and adult community education. He holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) and a Graduate Diploma in Vocational Education.

Artist Statement:  As a maker of objects I am preoccupied with form, often pared back to a point of abstraction. Design is integral to the act of making, and is derived in an evolving process of discovery in shaping and reshaping. I have not made one-thousand bowls, for instance, but one, perhaps a thousand times.

I hope that the resultant distillation of form reveals something of the importance of design in the hand made object to a scale of our own ordinary human experience, visual, tactile and conceptual.
