One Girl Charity Fundraiser W/ Groove Coop, Kaziah & More | The Friends of The Mechanics Institute
DO IT IN A DRESS FIESTA at the MECHANICS INSTITUTE, 284 GREAT WESTERN HIGHWAY LAWSON.
Two years ago, the locals ‘Did it in a Dress’, now we’re going to ‘Do It in a Dress Again’. Join us for a night of fun, food and frocks, drink and dance. It isn’t compulsory to wear a school uniform, but you just know you want to! You won’t be alone if you don a dress to raise awareness of the plight of the 60 million girls around the world that don’t get the chance to wear school uniforms, something that we all take for granted.
The event will raise money for the ONE GIRL CHARITY which helps in educating girls in Sierra Leone and Uganda. In line with the original principles of the Mechanics Institutes in promoting education of the disadvantaged to improve lives the One Girl Charity seeks to harness the power of education to advance change in the lives of girls in their communities. The charity has raised $2.5 million since it was established in 2009 and has helped over 12,000 girls achieve a high school education. They provide scholarships, school uniforms, school buildings, toilets and other resources to help keep girls in school.
Local legends, GROOVE COOP, KAZIAH AND SAMBA TROMBADA will be joined by a Mystery Band all the way from Wollongong.

ABOUT THE BANDS:
Mountain faves, THE GROOVE CO-OP will be doing it in whatever they can manage, plying their musky brew of funky grooves to blow your dress up late into the night.
KAZIAH are a young Blue Mountains band. They play all-original indie/psych/rock songs and have a growing reputation in the mountains.
They’ve also been on Triple J’s Unearthed.
SAMBA TROMBADA is a funky, Blue Mountains Brazilian percussion group. They get you jumping and will no doubt do it again on November 16.
A MYSTERY BAND from Wollongong.
