Anne Blair-Hickman

I’m a portrait artist living in Blaxland East and have been having lessons with David Newman-White in Lithgow over the past 9 months.

My recent portraits have been people I’ve met on the streets. These include “Archangel Michael”, who sells the Big Issue in the Blue Mountains, “The Juggler”, a homeless man in Penrith, and “Bessie”, an 85 year old woman who I met on a park bench and then had a cup of tea with her.

Another recent portrait I’ve been working on is of “Lionel”, who sells the Big Issue at Central Station in Sydney. I love people and I love hearing their stories. Through my art, I bring them to life on paper, and they in turn, become part of my family.

My preferred medium is oil pastels, however I’ve also dabbled in soft pastels, acrylics and watercolours.

All my work is done in my art space set up in my sunroom (it was a dining room until it got taken over!)

I’d love people to come and visit, to have a cup of tea, to hear some stories and hopefully, find joy through what I’ve created.
